TRAINING IN LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE
Lymphatic drainage is a very gentle yet highly effective manual treatment method.
It helps stimulate lymph circulation, which detoxifies the body and supports post-surgical recovery.
This training has been designed for individuals aiming to become certified medical masseurs with a federal diploma (BFMM).

- Anatomy, physiology, and functions of the lymphatic system and lymphoid organs
- Lymphatic circulation: lymph, flow, rates, forces, and origins
- Effects of manual lymphatic drainage techniques
- Contraindications and various precautions
- Nine basic treatments: back, neck, face, chest, abdomen, lumbosacral region, upper and lower limbs
- Overview of different classes of edema and their practical implications
- Impact of emotions, stress, and pain on smooth muscles
- Therapeutic reasoning: case analysis, appropriateness of use, implementation, contraindications, and limitations
- Specific maneuvers: techniques for edema, mobilization, detection and treatment of painful points and areas
- Application of drainage in special conditions according to the client’s/patient’s state
- Justified practice of intraoral manual lymphatic drainage

Lymphatic drainage
Module 1: Theory
- Understand the origin and discovery of lymphatic drainage
- Know what interstitial fluid, lymph, and tissue exchanges are
- Locate and identify the initial lymphatic vessels
- Locate and identify the lymph nodes, trunks, and organs of the lymphatic system
- Understand lymphatic flow and the influence of manual drainage
- Recognize vessel insufficiency and the effects of drainage
- Explain the anatomy, physiology, and function of the lymphatic system
- Know the basic maneuvers and their execution rules
- Understand the relationships between other body systems and their specific connections
- Know the function of the safety valve
- Be familiar with the most common pathologies related to the lymphatic system
- Understand the main effects of lymphatic drainage at mechanical, cellular, metabolic, psychological, and energetic levels
- Apply the principle of favorable positioning for the practitioner and the use of their body for manual lymphatic drainage
- Know the terminology used to describe body planes, movements, and directions
- Understand the basics related to the integumentary system
Module 2: Integumentary System
- Understand the functions of the skin, its structure, care, and the effects of drainage on it
Module 3: Care Management, Anamnesis, Hygiene
- Be aware of your skills and responsibilities
- Create a personalized anamnesis and follow-up sheets
- Gather the necessary information for the comprehensive care of the client
- Know the indications and contraindications and verify if the treatment can be performed
- Recognize diseases of the skin, blood circulation, and lymphatic system
- Establish a treatment strategy over several weeks in agreement with your client
- Apply personal hygiene rules for the therapist and the equipment used
- Know the main sources of infections and fungal infections
- Choose materials such as linens, support cushions, etc.
- Be able to explain to a client the different possibilities for self-treatment
Module 4: Techniques, Protocols, and Self-Treatment
- Apply the basic movements of lymphatic drainage such as effleurages, static circles, combined circular movements, pumping maneuvers, and scooping maneuvers
- Perform maneuvers by area: leg, arm, face, thorax, back, lumbar, and gluteal regions
- Understand the basic principles of lymphatic drainage sequences
- Know the lymph nodes and have a schematic representation of the treatment
- Be familiar with the main types of medications affecting the treatment
- Apply simple complementary decongestive measures
Module 5: Reviews and Case Studies
- Carry out a specific care process from A to Z, starting with creating a file and including advice for the client
- Connect knowledge to real-life situations through in-depth study
- Formulate an objective self-critique for improvement
- Respond to clients’ questions and work professionally and independently
